This Sidra coffee is grown at an altitude of 1,450 meters in San José de Minas (Pichincha). Its characteristic features include a gentle, juicy tangerine or apple acidity and a delicate sweetness. As it cools, the flavor develops, revealing a cardamom-like spice and floral aroma.
We recommend pairing it with citrus sweets or baked goods with mint or spices. For example, it goes well with scones with orange peel or cardamom-scented pound cake. You can enjoy a pairing that has a light yet deep flavor.
[Production background]
This lot was produced at Finca Cruz Loma, a family-run farm run by Galo Morales. They began their specialty coffee business just six years ago. Due to a lack of experience, only two hectares remained of the eight hectares they initially planted. After this bitter experience, they focused on revising their cultivation and quality.
His efforts are clearly paying off, with him winning first place at Tasa Dorada in 2021 and third place at the Cup of Excellence in 2022. With the participation of his sister Grace, an agronomist, he has also improved fertilization and management methods scientifically, resulting in dramatic growth in both quality and yield.
[Regional characteristics]
Pichincha Province is a notable specialty coffee producing region in Ecuador, blessed with a cool climate and high altitude environment. The area around San Jose de Minas in particular has a good balance of sunlight and humidity, which allows coffee to grow with a clean, vibrant flavor. The bright, complex acidity and floral aroma unique to the Sidra variety are one of the beautiful expressions of this region's terroir.
