Gichataini is a coffee factory belonging to the Gicanda Growers Association. Located near Mount Kenya National Park, it enjoys abundant rainfall throughout the year and wide temperature fluctuations, making it an ideal environment for coffee cultivation. Approximately 4,000 small-scale farmers bring cherries to the Gicanda Growers Association, and of these, approximately 1,000 farmers sell coffee through this factory. Gichataini alone boasts a production volume of approximately 230 tons of green beans.
Only fully ripe cherries are weighed and shipped to the wet mill on the same day. The parchment is then fermented, washed, sun-dried, and stored in a warehouse. The water used for coffee selection comes from the nearby Lagati River, and after use, it is transferred to a soaking pit away from the water source, in an effort to avoid polluting the area.
