This washed coffee is produced at the Kaliaini Coffee Factory in the Kirinyaga district of Kenya, and offers a truly Kenyan flavor.

The fresh, bright acidity reminiscent of grapefruit and orange is layered with a gentle honey-like sweetness, creating a well-balanced flavor. As the temperature drops, the acidity gradually subsides, revealing a fruity flavor reminiscent of blackcurrant and a deep, lingering finish.

The Kariaini Coffee Factory is currently one of the refineries under the MWIRUA Cooperative and was established in the Kirinyaga district in 1954. Coffee cultivation in this area began in 1952, and the factory was established in 1954, the year of the first harvest. At the time, it was one of the few refineries under the colony, and was a pioneer in supporting local coffee production.

Located at an altitude of 1,600 meters, this area boasts an ideal environment for growing coffee, with red volcanic ash soil, a mild temperature of 13 to 26 degrees Celsius, and an annual rainfall of approximately 1,100 mm. Water from the Rundu River is used for the washing process, and the harvested cherries are brought to the factory on the same day. The cherries are dehulled within 24 hours, fermented and washed for 18 to 48 hours, and then sun-dried on African beds for 5 to 30 days, depending on the weather.

Kirinyaga's terroir and careful processing produce a clear acidity and fruitiness. This cup will allow you to experience the charm of Kenyan coffee once again.
