This coffee offers a bright and juicy acidity reminiscent of orange, complemented by the concentrated fruit character of blackcurrant. As the coffee cools, a gentle honey-like sweetness emerges, followed by a smooth finish reminiscent of vanilla.

Highlights

This washed field blend of SL28, Ruiru 11, and Batian was processed at Gititu Coffee Factory in Kenya’s Kiambu region. Carefully harvested cherries are delivered to the factory by approximately 3,000 smallholder farmers cultivating coffee in the surrounding highlands.

Bright orange-like fruit notes and the rich depth of blackcurrant are balanced by a honey-like sweetness and a soft vanilla finish, creating a juicy and well-structured cup.

About Gititu Coffee Factory

Established in 1971, Gititu Coffee Factory is one of the longer-established coffee factories in the Kiambu region. It is located in a mountainous area approximately 47 kilometres northwest of Nairobi, at an elevation of around 1,300 metres.

Ripe coffee cherries are delivered by approximately 3,000 farmers cultivating coffee in the surrounding highlands. Through its long-standing collaboration with local producers, the factory works to maintain consistent coffee quality.

About Gititu Farmers Coop Society

Gititu Farmers Coop Society operates eight coffee factories: Gititu, Muthuja, Kimathi, Karweti, Ngochi, Kairia, Ikinu, and Ngenwa.

For many years, the cooperative has provided farmers with technical guidance on cultivation management and cherry harvesting, working alongside its members to continuously improve coffee quality.

Name & Terroir

The name “Gititu” is derived from a Kikuyu word meaning “a large forest.” True to its name, the surrounding area is blessed with abundant woodland and gently sloping land that receives ample sunlight.

The soil consists primarily of fertile red volcanic earth, mixed with a distinctive, heavy black soil. This unique combination of natural conditions and soil contributes to the coffee’s bright acidity and rich fruit character.

Quality & Transparency

Gititu Farmers Coop Society invites producers to visit the coffee auction in Nairobi, where they can observe firsthand how the coffees they grow are evaluated and traded.

These educational initiatives help farmers develop a stronger understanding of quality while supporting transparent cooperative management and building long-term trust between the cooperative and its members.
